Stand By Me - 25 years later

I just want to share this link with you from Wil Wheaton's blog, in which he posted about the recent reunion he had with his fellow castmates and director Rob Reiner of the film, Stand By Me that he did 25 years ago with Jerry O Donnell, Corey Feldman, and River Phoenix.  I don't want to give anything away, but it was the first time all of them had been together since River's death of an overdose many years ago.  A very touching blog post, I was in tears by the end of it and I had to share it with all of you.

Might have to get the golden lasso to go with it though......bowchica bow wow!

Wanted to add a quick note
My friend Duckalicious over at batcrapcrazy.blogspot.com and I were tweeting the other day about Wonder Woman underoos, I had no idea they made them for grown ups till she sent me the link for http://www.superherostuff.com/  Gotta give her and her blog a shout-out here, check her out when you get a chance, I guarantee you will not regret it!

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, back to anger management you go.....

Oh Chris Brown.....poor tormented angry little guy.

Did you guys hear about his tantrum on Good Morning America today?  He went on this morning to talk about his album, F.A.M.E. that drops today.

Robin Roberts kept directing the conversation to his past and the whole Rhianna abuse thing, he kept trying to direct the conversation back to the new album.  Understand that, it was 2 years ago.  He did say it was in the past, he had moved on and was there to promote the album and to talk about the music.  Robin Roberts, just kept going back to the abuse thing though.  Chris handled himself well on camera, but apparently under the surface the beast had been awakened.

He did his little song and then went back to the dressing room where he had a tantrum. He started shouting and tearing apart the dressing room.  By the time security got there, Psycho Boy had shattered a window enough to send glass falling to the sidewalk below.  He ripped his shirt off and then stormed out of the studio.

(As a side note, why do these rappers feel that they have to rip off their shirts when they get mad?  Do we need to see their tats? Or are they showing off their muscles?  Why waste a perfectly good shirt?  I just don't get it..will someone explain that to me?)

Anyway.....

Afterwards, he sent out a curse-laden tweet (then he deleted it)  "I'm so over people bringing this past shit up!!!!  Yet we praise Charlie Sheen and other celebs for their bullshit!!"

Okay, seems like someone didn't learn what he needed to from round one of anger management, so maybe he needs a refresher course.  Second, if he's trying to clean up his image, this sure as hell is not the way to do it.  He's coming off like a douchebag.  At least he didn't hurt anyone this time, but damn dude!

I've been robbed!

Okay, not really. But.....

I lost a whole hour of my day...to daylight savings time. Sunday came, I slept in but got up as usual and had some stuff I wanted to do but didn't realize the time had changed.  Messed around the house until around 3pm (well, with the time change it was really 4) and then it hit me - "Hells bells, the frackin time change was today!"  Threw my whole damned day off.  I felt so.....violated and dare I say, dirty?  Didn't get anything done, the whole day was shot to the crapper.

To top things off, I forgot to fix the time on my alarm clock in the bedroom so I got up late on Monday....when my husband got me up at 10 till 7, (I have to be at work at 8) the first word out of my mouth was, "SHIT!"  It's never good to start a Monday saying, "Shit!" Was tired and in a crappy mood all day.  Took me 2 more days to get adjusted and finally I feel "normal" now.

Why can't we just pick a time and stay with it?  This changing the damned clocks ain't worth it.

What do you think?

Exploding Memoirs

Apparently, you need no qualifications or even an interesting story to be able to write your memoirs and have them published.  Case in point, Steve O of Jackass fame has published his memoir entitled Steve-O Professional Idiot - A Memoir.  He's got the "professional idiot" part down pat.  I just have to shake my head and roll my eyes.  He has come back from a dark history of drug addiction, so that part of the story may be interesting....it will just be interspersed with exploding toilets and flying midgets.

Still, reading this I would be afraid of losing brain cells so I think I'll pass.

ACC Tourney Trauma

Sad day for me and all Tarheel fans.  We got our asses handed to us today by our archenemy, Duke.

I might do a regular post later, right now I'm too traumatized by our loss.....need trauma counseling...*sob*

Soundtrack of my Life - Current Day Karen

Final installment of Soundtrack of my Life, Current Day Karen.

I'll sort of begin when I met my hubby which was in 2001, I was 29 at the time.  We met at Karaoke, of course.  I had moved back to Greensboro the previous year after my first marriage had broken up.  The song that reminds me of the night we met is "Something to Talk About" by Bonnie Raitt.  I sang it that night, it's still one of my go to songs for Karaoke and it's just a great flirty song.  I liked him, sang it to try to impress him and I guess it worked!  Almost 10 years later we're still together.
"Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen is another song that is close to my heart.  I don't have a specific story about this one, I've just heard it through the years...Jeff Buckley's version is my favorite.  It's just one of those rare songs that stays with you for a lifetime. One of my all time favorites for sure.

Currently, there are some newer songs out that I really relate to that have found their way onto my MP3 playlist:
"Rollin' in the Deep" Adele  This is on her new album, 21 which is awesome BTW.  This song is her best so far, I think.  I love her voice and the emotion she puts into this song is just phenomenal.
"F'ing Perfect"  Pink  I just love the message in this song.  Pink is all about positivity with her songs lately and this one is just great.  Sends a great message and always puts me in a better mindframe whenever I hear it.
"Fireworks" Katy Perry  Usually she's a little too "pop" for me, but the message in this song just kicks ass!  It just puts me in a great mood and pumps me up.
"Paris (Ooh La La)" Grace Potter and the Nocturnals  Kick butt rock song, and Grace can wail..damn what a voice!
"The Cave"  Mumford and Sons  The banjo is back baby!  I really didn't like this song at first, but after seeing them perform at the Grammy's I gave them a second listen.....then a third, and a fourth, and well you get the piciture.  Got their album and it is great!  "Little Lion Man" is another great tune of theirs.

Well, hope you enjoyed my soundtrack posts.  As you can tell, I listen to a very diverse selection of music - and I didn't even write about half of it.  Music is such a huge part of my life.  I've had fun writing these posts, it's really taken me back to some interesting times in my life.

Soundtrack of my life continued - College and Young Adult Karen

Continuing the Soundtrack of my life, apologies for the lateness of this next installment.  Just to recap where this all started, I was inspired after reading an entry by Lady Estrogen on her blog, AdventuresinEstrogen.blogspot.com where she listed her top 10 songs of all time and told little stories about times in her life when she first heard those songs. (I still recommend her blog, it's awesome)
I started thinking about songs that I love but when I think about these songs they take me back to moments in my life.  So, I decided to put them in chronological order and share with you stories about the songs as they related to the different stages of my life.  We did childhood Karen and Awkward Teenager Karen in my first post, now we're up to College and Young Adult Karen.
College Karen:  College was a weird time for me, it took me awhile to figure out who I was and what I wanted to do.  I started out at UNCG and then transfered to Lenoir Rhyne College.  At LR, I found some great friends and lived out on my own for the first time.  I joined a sorority, and of course weekend parties were a must!  One of the songs that takes me back to that time and always makes me smile is "Come Baby Come" by K7.  It was played on our hall constantly, and at the frat house we migrated to every weekend.  I keep in touch with a few close sisters, and we still laugh about that stupid song.  Any of those other 90's party songs would do also: "Tootsie Roll,", "Gin and Juice,", "Fantastic Voyage," or anything by Coolio!
Another one I loved was "Anywhere Is" by Enya.  I loved Enya's ethereal voice, and still listen to her music now.  That song just really spoke to me at the time for some reason.  I played her music in my dorm room when I was studying, it just really quieted my mind.
The 90's were all about the grunge music too, and I listened to Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, all of those bands...loved it!  "Black" by Pearl Jam was a song that has stuck with me, I still love it.  Back then, chat rooms were becoming a thing and a few of us would go to the computer lab in the library and "talk" to people from all over the world.  Well, I "met" a guy from Canada and we developed a relationship online. This developed to phone calls, mailing cards and little gifts to one another, etc.  There was a spark there, but he was in frickin Canada. Finally, he came down for a week to meet face to face.  There were definitely sparks, and it was heartbreaking when he had to leave but we both knew it just wasn't meant to be.  He made me this mixed tape, and "Black" was on it.  It stood out and brings back fond memories of that experience.

Young Adult Karen:   After college, I moved back home - it was a weird time for me.  Building a career, stilll figuring out what I wanted out of life, it was just a transitional time I think.  I reunited with an old friend that I had sung with in High School chorus, and she introduced me to Karaoke.  I had forgotten how much I loved singing in front of people.  One of the songs that I did regularly, and that I still love is "Criminal" by Fiona Apple.  I love her music, and that was her breakout song back in the 90's.  Love that song! I also started singing some country songs, and became a fan of Martina McBride.  "A Broken Wing" became one of my favorite songs ever to sing at Karaoke and is still one of my favorite songs period.

Well, that sums up this period for me.  We'll wrap things up next time with when I met Hubby and Present day Karen.

Charlie Sheen said that - "Winning!"

Okay, guess I'm obligated to make fun of Charlie Sheen once on this blog.  He's saying all kinds of crazy shit and because he's  Charlie Sheen, he's pretty much able to do whatever he wants.  So, my new favorite saying is, "Charlie Sheen said that."  Put it after any crazy quote or thing you want to say, add WINNING! to the end.  Just try it!  "I love the smell of napalm in the morning, I keep a can of it on my bedside table.  It smells like winning!"  Or, how about this:  "My passion is not from this terrestrial realm.  It's from the aliens growing in my belly.  Winning!"  Heck, just throw out some non-sensical words together...it doesn't even have to make sense:  "Belly button weinermobile boney cantelope tiger blood ninja star chupacabra watermelon....WINNING!"  See?  It totally works!  Charlie Sheen said that!

Things that Annoy the Crap Outta me

We all have things that annoy us, list yours too!  Here are mine:

Charlie Sheen -   I don't need to elaborate do I?

People who don't use turn signals - I'm not a mind reader folks, a little heads up would be nice!  I'll catch the Mind Reading 101 class the next time it is offered.  In the meantime, use them okay?

All of the commercials they have before movies in the theater.  Ridiculous right?  You sit there forever before the actual movie starts because first you have the commercials, then the trailers...it's like 45 minutes of crap before you get to the movie you paid to see!  CRAZY!

Not having an umbrella when you really really need one.  This happened to me this week.  Yeah it was my own fault, I knew we were going to get rain - just didn't know when.  I left work in the midst of a monsoon, got SOAKED!  When I got home my hair was so wet I dried it with my hair dryer!

Dog owners that let their dogs stay out and bark 24/7.  Take some responsibility people!  If they are inside dogs, bring them inside!  If they are outside dogs, go out and see what's got them riled up.  You got a dog, take care of them.

You've just gotten your food at a restaurant, and either just put the first bite in your mouth or getting ready to do so and your waiter comes over to ask if everything is alright.  Well, I just got my food like 2 seconds ago - how can I know yet if my food is alright?  Geez, can I taste it first and then tell you?

Okay, that's all I got for now.  Got something to add, help yourself!
