Sometimes an odd thing happens to me when I am out shopping. Strangers come up and talk to me, and sometimes think I work at the store at which I am shopping. Let me explain my lastest escapade.
I was at Walmart just this past Thursday - minding my own business when a lady crosses the women's clothing department with a skirt in her hand and asked me, "Is this a skirt or a dress?" I didn't know why she singled me out when there were other people around, but I told her I thought it was a skirt and went on shopping.
Wait, I'm not through yet. I walked out to one of those racks they have near the aisle to look at some yoga tanks and this lady in a scooter motors up to me asking me where the school supplies were.
Um, excuse me - I don't work here. I have a shopping buggy with me with crap in it, I have street clothes on and am carrying a purse. I am clearly shopping just like you are. What in holy hell made these people think that I worked at the freaking Walmart? There were store employees all over the place, so it's not like I was the only person around. I just don't get it. Do I have a sign above my head that says, "Questions? Ask me!"
This truly happens to me more often than you guys know. I don't know if I have a friendly face, or a demeanor about me or what. I'm usually pretty okay about it and am friendly to other people, but some days I want to be left the hell alone. This kinda was one of those days unfortunately but I wasn't rude to anyone, thank god. I told scooter lady I didn't know where the school supplies were and she motored on her merry little way.

this happens to my husband all the time...someone is always trying to talk to him or ask him for advice...he does have a friendly face though!
That is strange. I have had this happen maybe only twice in my life. I used to work retail and I don't think I could stand it if someone randomly assumed I worked at a place I was shopping.
Lesson: Don't wear your blue vest when going shopping at Walmart. HAHA
Ha ha Lady E! I so wasn't even close to being dressed like a Walmart employee! This totally happens to me everywhere I go. Maybe I need to practice my bitch-face more....start wearing it when I go places so people will leave me the hell alone when I don't wanna be bothered. LOL!
OKay, so I got really tickled reading this! I am sure it can get annoying though:) Thanks so much for hooking up to High on Life!

Oh Gosh! I loved this tooo funny!!! Im going to say its your friendly face!!! You Love in Greensboro? I Live in W/S!!! Thanks soo much for linking up to High on Life!! Please come back next week!!
I know why they asked a customer for help. If it is anything like our local WalMart the customers seem to know more about the store than the employees do. Heee Hee!

Just be thankful they do not mistake you for a Walmart SHOPPER (sorry for yelling but I don't see an italic's option) . Have you ever checked out the People of Walmart website? If not, you're missing out - one of the funniest things you'll ever see/read.
I am writing from Lala Musings: A Day in the Life of a Mother and found your fun-to-read posts through the FNF blog hop. I'm a new follower.
Cheers,
Rachel
Loved this post! Found you at the weekend blog hop - hope you'll stop by Everything Beautiful In Its Time!
LOL! I don't think it could be a friendly face - that would be a sure sign that you are NOT a Wal-Mart employee :)
Maybe you seem nicer than a normal employee and more approachable? Just take it as a compliment. :) Thanks for linking up with us again at the Sit and Relax weekend hop! Have a great week.

Hehe. I might have it worse. I have an accent, because, surprise I am not a "native" here, but spent most of my adult life in the US, so You can imagine how it gets to me when people assume things based on my accent alone. So I have been offered a cleaning lady job at a post office in NY where I lived, because I looked like and sounded like the last cleaning lady this woman had. Well, I told her that I am looking for a cleaning lady too, and asked if she was interested. Then people at the laundromat used to think I worked there, same assumptions... Now I work at a shoe store, and I have custies welcome me to America every day.:)))Life is like that, right?
You must look very credible and approachable. Which is a good thing, I think! I often get asked for directions . . . sometimes even when I'm in a foreign country! I loved, loved giving English tourists directions while I was in London. It totally made my day!
